Our Mission Statement

Clay County Literacy Coalition, Inc. enables adults and families to acquire the literacy skills needed to solve the problems of daily living and to participate confidently in society.

The Clay County Literacy Coalition is a non-profit organization funded by contributions from individuals, organizations and businesses.

We would like to welcome W.E. Cherry Elementary

School in their first year of participation in our

Essay Contest, Why Reading Is Important.

Who we are

  • The Clay County Coalition (CCLC) was formed in 1995 when a small group of citizens recognized a need for a literacy program in the county.
  • Volunteers are trained to tutor on a one-on-one basis and work with adults who want to improve their Reading, Writing and Speaking Skills.
  • Tutors are provided additional training and skill development throughout the year.
  • There are NO costs for the training, for tutoring or materials.
  • To date, over 185 individuals have become tutors.
  • Currently, 116 individuals are receiving tutoring and another 15 are awaiting a tutor.
  • A participant in county-wide events, such as Orange Park Fall Fest, Clay County Agricultural Fair, Middleburg Historical Days, etc.
  • Sponsor of a 4th grade Essay Writing competition involving several area schools.
  • Computer-assisted learning courses are available.
  • Classes in different levels of Conversation and Writing are offered on a regular basis.
  • Opportunities for students to meet as a group are provided.
